Ford’s Warriors In Pink Teams Up With Martha Stewart To Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

During a special taping of ‘ The Martha Stewart Show ‘, which will air on Friday, October 16 (nationally syndicated, check local listings), daytime host Martha Stewart was joined by an audience full of survivors and supporters, as well as Ford Warriors in Pink to raise breast cancer awareness. I was invited to attend alongside several NYC bloggers ( Prime time Parent , Skimbaco , Chapman Parenting , and Quirky Fusion ) by Ford to help promote the episode. One audience member had a chance to win a brand new 2010 Ford Taurus during the taping! Who won? Her name was Stephanie Adams and she was diagnosed with breast cancer at 27!!! I got goosebumps when I heard her story. She was absolutely shocked and really couldn’t process that she was walking away with such a prize. I am so thankful for the family I have and that they are willing to get involved in all the adventures I start! I love doing fundraisers for the American Cancer Society and have one of them my family has been right there doing so much and being awesome. Everytime I think of them my heart really does smile!

Missing my step father

My Step dad pass away on 3-28-07 and next month is his birthday. It is really close to Thanksgiving so with everyone at work talking about our Thanksgiving party ~ it makes me remember him. He passed away from lung cancer. It is such a terrible disease. He was told around christmas that he had it and that in March he passed away. Those three month were nice to have him around, but he was in so much pain. I really don't think lung cancer awareness is promoted enough. People need to know more about it and do know to get check often.

My families Relay for Life experience

This summer my family got a team together and did the Relay for Life. I was the team captain and my sister was the cocaptain. It was a wonderful experience that I was glad we had the opportunity to do. We did it in honor of our father who passed away two years ago of lung cancer. He is misses so much by all of us and I don't know if there was more laughing or crying during the 24 hours we walked, fundraiser and meet new friends. We did our fundraising tent all in baseballs and bats because our dad loved to play softball. The theme for Relay for Life was Disney so we picked the movie Angels in the Outfield as our theme. I thought it was the best movie because of our father being an angel who is probably hanging out of the ballfield all the time. It was my 15 year old nephew who thought of the movie, he loved his grandfather very much. There are five of us kids and four were at the Relay and there are 11 grandkids and 8 of them were there and they stayed there for the whole 24 hours and a lot of them walked the track for many hours. We were able to help raise money for awareness and our team was in the top 20 teams, so we were excited since this was our first years. This is an awesome way to honor a loved one and to help raise awareness at the same time!

Relay For Life

This unique community event celebrates survivorship and raises money for cancer-fighting programs. Teams of eight to 15 people camp out overnight at a local stadium, park, or fairground and take turns walking around a track or path for 12 to 24 hours. The event usually begins with a survivor lap in which cancer survivors take a victory lap around the track. Later, a candlelight ceremony is held to honor cancer survivors and remember those lost to the disease. Relay For Life® events bring together more than 3.5 million people in the United States and 19 other countries to celebrate, remember, and fight back.

Look Good...Feel Better

This free, national public service program is sponsored by the American Cancer Society, the Personal Care Products Council (formerly the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, or CTFA), and the National Cosmetology Association. Look Good…Feel Better® is dedicated to teaching female cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during cancer treatments. Services include two-hour group makeover workshops and one-on-one salon consultations. The program also provides educational materials.

Reach to Recovery

The Reach to Recovery® program, facilitated by trained volunteers who are breast cancer survivors, helps newly diagnosed breast cancer patients cope with their disease by providing emotional support and information. The survivor-volunteers can also remind newly diagnosed patients about the importance of continuing to get their annual mammograms following treatment for the disease.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) program is dedicated to increasing awareness about the importance of the early detection of breast cancer through a nationwide campaign held in October. NBCAM started as a weeklong campaign in 1985 with 2 founding members. Today the American Cancer Society is one of many national public service organizations, professional associations, and government agencies that form the NBCAM Board of Sponsors. During NBCAM, the member organizations of the Board of Sponsors join forces to spread the message that early detection of breast cancer followed by prompt treatment saves lives.

Breast Cancer Awareness!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month! My husband lost his mom to breast cancer 7 years ago and she was his best friend for so many years. He has such a hard time trying to deal with this loss that he has change. Last year I had a fundraiser in honor of his mom and people came from everywhere to help honor her. She was a very loving person that everyone loved to be around. I only got the opportunity to know her for eight months before she passed away, but I am so thankful for those eight months. She was always fun to be around. I only wish she could have met her grandson. They would have loved each other so much! I believe awareness is so important and I love helping to spread the word; awareness!!! I have been working more and more with the American Cancer Society. And have got my family and his family involved. Everyone loves to get together and talk to others and to remember stories about her.
